Island of Nantes
The Island of Nantes is a manifesto for urban regeneration, featuring:
The Jardin des Cinq Sens (Garden of the Five Senses): a sensory garden with educational areas and playgrounds.
Parc des Chantiers (the Workfield Park): home to the famous Machines de l'Île (Machines of the Isle of Nantes), including the 12-meter high Grand Elephant that can carry 52 passengers all around surrondings.
Quai de l'île de Nantes (Island’s quay): a picturesque promenade along the Loire riverbanks.
City Center and Historic Sites
Château des Ducs de Bretagne (Castle of the Dukes of Brittany ): a majestic (medieval) castle (built during Middle Ages) with a large reflective water mirror in front of it.
Jardin des Plantes (Botanical Garden): a large historical botanical garden of seven hectares with specimen trees, greenhouses, animals, and art installations, classified as remarkable garden.
Ile Feydeau and Place du Bouffay: historic living neighbourhoods with restaurants, shops, markets, temporary exhibition, public squares and dynamic fountains.
Natural Wonders
Jardin Extraordinaire (the Extraordinary Garden) : a public garden in a former quarry with a waterfall, gazebos and unusual plants.
Ile de Versailles (Versailles’s Island) : a japanese-inspired garden on the Erdre river, a popular place for summer block parties and other daily events.
La Petite Amazonie (The Little Amazon) : an urban wetland wild area, recognised for its high biodiversity potential, with an artistic observatory.
Urban Innovation
Pirmil les Isles : a new eco-district being developed on former wastelands.
Quartier Grand Bellevue (Grand Bellevue district): a social housing district undergoing revitalization with participatory construction projects. Alternative : a social housing area being revitalised with participatory building projects.
